BEHIND POP & TOAST
Anna McKeown, known as Pop and Toast is an Irish contemporary artist working between Belfast and Dubai. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, her practice moves between abstraction and representation, exploring the relationship between memory, place and human presence.
Through expressive colour, layered surfaces and intuitive mark-making, Pop and Toast translates fragments of lived experience into paintings that sit between recognition and ambiguity. Irish landscapes and desert horizons merge; figures become fleeting impressions; familiar objects carry associations of ritual, desire and celebration.
Spanning gestural abstraction, landscape, portraiture and her signature bottle paintings, her work considers how an image can hold an emotional connection—to a person, a place or a moment in time.
